Home Design Studio + Office | One Room Challenge : Week 1

Updated: Apr 10, 2019

Let's do the dang thing! As this is my first time participating in the One Room Challenge, let me take a moment to introduce myself. I'm Justyne, the owner and principal designer of DeWilde Design Co. I am a residential interior designer in Northern California and am taking the plunge into this amazing challenge with a swift kick to the butt from one of my favorite local designers, Rebecca with Studio Plumb. She is going to be my partner in crime for this challenge whether she likes it or not and to say I'm lucky is an understatement. Her work speaks for itself and you can find her portfolio and previous challenge submission here! We have lived our home for two years and at this point, I don't know if the room we are focusing on would have gotten any attention without the community and push of the Spring 2019 Challenge.

On to the room of honor: many of you guessed based off of previous insta stories on our account @dewildedesignco, we will be giving an additional room in our home a serious overhaul into a home design studio + office. Up until this point, the additional room has been the shove-all for items when the in-laws came over, Christmas decoration storage when it was easier to throw upstairs than trek out to the garage, and most importantly, a space for all of my samples, catalogs, and additional styling decor to clutter until they were needed again. The space is perfect for a multipurpose space that we cannot wait to share with you.

Here's a basic floor plan to give you a better lay of the land. The room is a rough 10' x 10' with an angled entry which can make things tricky as far as figuring out the path of travel around furniture.

Befores:

The room is on the smaller side and has remained virtually untouched other than a makeshift craft area in the closet. The walls are painted a boring builder-grade greige. The sliding closet doors were removed for more storage pretty much when we first moved in. Basically there is a LOT of room for improvement and we can wait to show you what we have planned.

Next week we will touch on the inspiration for the space and start discussing finishes. Swatches are coming in, orders are being made, and we are very excited to see how the space turns out. Follow along as we cross lots of tasks off this list with the help of talented friends, skilled family, supportive design friends and very generous sponsors who we will be announcing soon!
